Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge
Protected since 1983, Lee Metcalf National Wilderness area is an ideal destination for Montana Elk Hunting. Consisting of a number of separate units of wilderness, this great expanse is home to mountain goats, sheep, cougars, wolves, black and grizzly bears, and, of course, elk. This 254,288-acre tract of land is located in the Madison mountain range, which consists of towering peaks that reach heights of 10,000 feet above sea level. To the southwest of Yellowstone National Park, this gorgeous wilderness area could not be more ideal for Montana Hunting.

Beaverhead National Forest
Beaverhead National Forest, another prime spot for Montana Elk Hunting, actually spans 8 counties. Designated a national forest by Theodore Roosevelt in 1908, Beaverhead National Forest merged with Deerlodge National Forest, and the two areas were combined to form one large forest in the 1990s. Located just 20 miles from Yellowstone, this fantastic Elk Hunting in Montana area contains much of the same breathtaking scenery visitors expect from the renowned national park.

Gallatin National Forest
Consisting of 2.1 million acres in south central Montana, this forest contains some of the best Montana Elk Hunting grounds in the state.
