Clothing
and Gear for Cold Weather We
believe in bringing at least 2 if not 3 pairs of
long underwear. We suggest Capilene, polypropylene,
or silk, usually in a mid weight. We typically wear
a good pair of wool pants, something that will keep
the wet off our bodies. Some wool products now have
a windstopper, and waterproofing in them. These are
good and will serve you nicely.
On top, we suggest the same types of long underwear,
with a wool sweater, a vest and then a hunting
jacket. Bring 2 hats, one that is warm and another
that is significantly warmer. Gloves are the same
idea, one that is warm and another that is a little
more substantial in warmth.
In camp we recommend a pair of warm pants and a
shirt. We will be in heated tents and it is usually
quite comfortable.
Boots There
are many sorts of boots out there, all fit
differently and have different warmth values. We
recommend a pair of camp shoes, booties, slip-on
shoes, or something to that effect.
We recommend 2 pairs of hunting boots to bring
along, one that is at least 200 gram Thinsulate and
is over 8 inches tall, with a good sole and is
comfortable for you to walk in.
Binoculars and Range-finders Binoculars
are great to have with you on the trip. We recommend
that you have one of at least 8 power but you can go
as high as 12 power. We will sometimes be looking a
long ways off and it is nice to have the power to
see detail at great distances. We suggest a
Crooked-Horn binocular sling, or something close to
it. These allow you to keep your binoculars in your
jacket, and allows you to pick them up easily,
without them being too cumbersome. It also keeps
them from getting dirty and wet.
