Archery Hunting
We are bringing back the famed Montana Archery
Hunts at Willow Ranch Outfitters for the 2008 season. Our hunts are
5 miles into the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The Lee Metcalf is loaded with huge bugling Montana elk. The amount of rubs and wallows has convinced us that this season we need to see a resurrection of archery.
You will be hunting at the peak of the Montana elk rut - the last
3 weeks of September. The days and nights will be filled with the sounds you have been dreaming about - the bugle of the elk. Your dreams will be complete as you finally see the blonde body of the elk as it walks into your sights, making this a trip of a lifetime.
You will hunt by bugling or cow calling to bugling elk. Once the elk are located, your guides will determine the best and most effective way of getting the elk to come at you, or assist you in putting a stalk on your prey.
Considerations:
Archery season is from September 6–October 19. Please call or
email us for booking a particular week.
We will be hunting in high mountain timber, mostly pines and willows.
Temperatures average in the low 30’s and can climb into the 70’s.
Prepare for big stalks. This means you will need to be in pretty good shape, as our camp is at 8,900
feet and you can be at heights from 6,500
feet to 10,000 feet in a single day. The horses will do much of the climbing, but we will be walking and stalking a good bit of the time.
We supply the food, camp, horses and guide. Please refer to our “What to Bring” page for a list of items you are responsible for and if you have any questions about items you might like to bring, please give us a call.
Bring something additional to wear around camp so you don’t have the smell of smoke and food in your clothes. Being that the temperature is usually nice we recommend a pair of sweatpants, heavy sweatshirt and a pair of shoes.
We also offer archery hunt trips for moose and
goat.
We look forward to helping you find the elk that brought you to Montana!
